Default New to the forum! Need help and advice

Hello,
I am new to the forum. I found out that I was pregnant 4 months ago. I am 17 years old. I have decided to keep my baby and my parents are supportive however the father is in and out of the picture already and he doesnt have a job and hasnt even took the first step to finding a job. It looks like that I am going to be taking care of my baby without his help. I was wondering if anyone knew of a website or number to call that has information about Financial assistance for single mothers in Texas. I am trying to find a job, but need to get some help until I can get out of college. I want to move out on my own because there is alot of tension in the house with my grandma being very ill. I also feel that I need to struggle in order to get where I need to be and learn from my mistakes. My parents have always done everything for me and made sure I had everything I needed, but now I feel since I have made this choice I need to figure out what I am going to do. It really makes me sad because I am an A B student in school taking all AP advanced classes, but now I am having to get my GED and be done with school. I love school, but things are changing and I need to figure out what I am going to do for the rest of my life. So if anyone knows of a website that has information or a phone number about single mother assistance for rent, and scholarships for school, and also maybe food stamps that would be great.
Thanks

Hello smatheson3006,

Welcome to the Single Mom Financial Help Forum. We are glad that you are here!

To get on food stamps, you will need to contact the local WIC (Women Infants and Children) clinic. Call this number 1-800-942-3678 to get the phone number of the WIC clinic in your area. The Texas WIC Reference guide lists eligibility requirements, income requirements, contact information, as well as the services that WIC offers.

The Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs can provide assistance with paying rent. This site is set up to plug in a city and county. There is also a toll-free number listed on the site to contact them by phone.

As for scholarships, there is information relating to scholarships for single mothers listed on the home page of SingleMomFinancialHelp. It is listed under to second, green square on the left hand side of the page.

I hope that this information is helpful for you.

Good luck!

~Sally~
