Texas Grants for Single Mothers

Texas, the biggest state in the United States, has a lot to offer for single moms. There are many Texas grants for single mothers that are available to make living a bit easier. Making ends meet for single moms, can still be hard, but there are a numerous amount of grants that are set up for just this purpose.

The state of Texas is known for having many grants for single moms. There are many grant opportunities that single moms should definitely make use of.  There are many helpful grants that are specific to the state of Texas itself.  Education and paying for housing and such becomes a lot easier with the help of grants, and Texas grants for single mothers will help.

Many of the grants and scholarships are merit based. However there are some that are need based and financial based as well.  Many of the grants are given out federally too.

Here are some grants that the government of Texas gives out to keep an eye out for:

TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy families) and TANF-UP Temporary Assistance for Needy Families — Unemployed Parents – This is a grant based on need and it has limits as to who can apply. This grant provides help for family members and those living with them. These are monthly cash payments that that help to cover the monthly recurring costs such as: rent, utilities, childcare, phone bills, furniture and other necessities. If you get approved for this grant, you will receive payments for 6 months and after 6 months; your payments may be renewed based on your needs.

Food Stamps and Medicaid – This grant is also based on a benefit period. The benefits last about 1 to 3 years. In that time period, people with low income are given food stamps to buy food for good healthcare.

There are many state programs that are offered for the residents of Texas.

One is the Texas Workforce Commission, which assists with job training and searches for jobs. You can contact the agency and they will help in finding a job that is matched up with your credentials and needs. The Labor Market and Career Information unit is also part of the Workforce Commission.  They want to help Texans out with career and education and they help with making decisions about jobs and such.

Another government agency to help you out is the Department of Human services that also has many federal and state programs to help families out.  They offer a variety of programs and their website is always updated to inform you about the programs available.

The children’s defense fund is another one to also check out. This is to help about children and their families. This is set up to really provide lots of good information about how to help children grow safely in their homes and grow to be strong youths.

There are just a handful of the many Texas grants for single mothers. There are many resources on the internet and you can contact many of the government agencies for more information and the specifics on how these grants for single moms work and what the application criteria is.

    Hi im a single mother of 3little boys i was currently laid off i have been looking for work but no luck @ all its extremely hard i have no car anymore about to be homeless are there any programs out in the Houston area to help me…its too hot to homeless wit small kids please help me

  • Hello, I am a 36 year old mother of two kids. I am a LVN, currently taking classes to bridge to the RN program. I am wanting to buy a home, I am sick of moving I make about $35,000 a year, and pay $800 a month in rent, and now my landlord has gone up a $100. I am just wanting to know if there is a Grant of some sort of be buying my own home, I have never owned a house. I am not looking for handouts, just some information how to make my only other dream come true. Please if there are any programs that can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. I have bad credit due to marriage. I appreciate any help or advice.
