Introduce Yourself.

My name is Becky King, and I am a 47 year old single stay at home mom to kids Caleb, 21; Emma, 10; Christa, 4. I currently live in Tennessee.

What is the biggest challenge you remember and how did you overcome it?

I would say my biggest challenge was my big move from Georgia to Tennessee to live with my parents. I’ve currently been in the process of sending out resumes.

What has been your biggest disappointment?

My biggest disappointment has been having to let my step children go after being their mom for seven and a half years.

Are there any organizations that helped you financially or otherwise?

My mom’s church and Mid East Community Action have both helped me with housing and other resources.

What is one of your biggest worries for the future?

Providing for my kids.

What is one your biggest strengths?

Keeping a constant smile on my face and keeping a positive attitude. Additionally, I like to believe that everything is going to be okay.

Any financial advice you have for other single mothers?

I’m currently struggling myself, but I have succeeded for the last 6 years. I think what helped me the most is that I refrain from spending where I don’t need to spend. Pinching pennies does help.

How important is education to you?

I think education is extremely important. It is something that I strive to teach my own kids. My eldest son is a junior in college and he is there on a full scholarship. I myself have a two year degree in medical billing and I hope to refresh my skills in this area.

What is one of your fondest memories?

The day(s) my children were born.

Are there are words of wisdom you’d like to give other single mothers?

Just keep your chin up. The harder you work, the more rewards you get. The harder you hug, the more hugs you get back.
